My family raises 5 chickens. They each produce one egg a day. In 30 days, we will get 150 eggs for $16 and a small amount of work. Organic eggs in the grocery cost $3-$4 dollars a dozen. For $16, we would only get 48-60 eggs from the grocery store.
In addition to costing less, our chicken eggs have a better, fresher taste than those from the grocery store. Their yolks are a more vibrant yellow, and this is a good sign. It is harder to hard boil a farm fresh egg, because it is easier to hard boil an older egg. Therefore, fresher eggs do not hard boil as well. They still have a much better taste, and I am so grateful to have our chickens!
