Waldorf Salad

I have never eaten a Waldorf salad before and I don’t know if I ever plan to. It doesn’t sound very appetizing or healthy to me. A Waldorf salad is a salad generally made of fresh apples, celery, grapes, and walnuts dressed in mayonnaise and usually served on a bed of lettuce as an appetizer or a light meal.

The salad was first created at the Waldorf hotel in New York City in 1896. It wasn’t’t created by the chef, but the dining room manager. The original recipe didn’t contain nuts. They were added later. I wonder what made the inventor of the recipe think of such a wacky salad idea.
